A lightweight tool for persisting terminal process sessions

About

  • A tool that keeps terminal sessions alive and allows reattaching, so work can continue without interrupting processes
  • Provides only session persistence, without the complex window management features of tmux or screen
  • Maintains sessions based on PTY processes, and supports connection control via attach/detach without ending the session
  • Multiple clients can connect to the same session simultaneously; previous output state and terminal scrollback are restored automatically
    • Uses the libghostty-vt library to quickly restore terminal state when reattaching to a session
  • The current session name is available via the ZMX_SESSION environment variable, supporting shell prompt customization
  • Stores CLI and per-session logs under /tmp/zmx/logs/
  • Works on macOS and Linux; does not provide windows, tabs, or splits
  • Built with the Zig language (v0.15) and distributed as a single executable
