The ZLIB LICENSE is a license that defines and permits the cases in which the ZLIB/LIBPNG SOFTWARE LIBRARIES may be distributed. In particular, it is a license that permits the ZLIB/LIBPNG SOFTWARE LIBRARIES to be used in other free software packages.

This license is compatible with the GPL.

ZLIB license explanation

The ZLIB license is a license for a program's source, and it can be used freely with almost no restrictions. Because it is relatively permissive compared to other open-source licenses, it may be used for commercial purposes, and unlike the GPL, there is no need to publish modified source.

However, unlike a public domain license, under the ZLIB license the original author retains the rights to the distributed source. Therefore, if you modify source distributed under the ZLIB license and publish the source again, you cannot remove the original author's notice, and you must not claim that you made the original software yourself.

Also, although it is not required, when you create and distribute a new program based on the published source, the original author will be pleased if you include information or details about the original author.
