A tool for sharing small datasets with a single link
About
- A web tool that compresses and encodes CSV or JSON files into the URL itself, so data can be shared with just a browser, without server uploads or accounts
- Data is stored in the URL fragment (the part after #), and since the browser does not send this part to the server, the server never receives the data
- Recipients of the link can view, search, and download the data as a table directly in the browser
- For GeoJSON data, only feature properties are shown in the table, with support for a map preview or integration with geojson.io
- Works completely free with no ads, sign-up, or storage management, and can be used offline after the page loads
How it works
- When you open or paste data, Ziptable compresses it and encodes it directly into the URL
- The data is included in the fragment (#) part of the URL, which the browser does not send to the server
- The recipient's browser unpacks the data locally and displays it
- No attachments, cloud storage workflows, or account creation needed
Privacy
- Because the data lives in the URL fragment, the Ziptable server does not receive the data when the page loads
- The server only receives requests for the app itself; the data exists only in the browser and the shared link
Caveats about short URLs
- The "Shorten URL" option sends the full link to a third-party shortening service such as TinyURL
- Since the URL containing all the encoded data is passed to that service's servers, use it only for non-sensitive datasets
- Short links depend on a third-party service and may stop working; the full Ziptable link is the most permanent version
Optimized for small datasets
- Suited to small to medium datasets such as examples, demos, source tables, and quick sharing
- Very large datasets produce long URLs that may be truncated in some apps
- The compression meter on the main page shows whether a dataset is within the shareable range (displays a 0–8,000 character range)
GeoJSON support
- When a GeoJSON file is detected, only feature properties are shown in the table and geometry is hidden
- Supports integration with geojson.io for a full map view
- If the dataset is too large, it suggests downloading and opening it in geojson.io instead of a direct map preview
Features
- No ads, no sign-up, no storage layer to manage
- Runs entirely in the browser and can work offline after the page loads
