        Modes       "1920x1080"
    EndSubSection
EndSection

Restart Xorg (lightdm on Ubuntu)

$ sudo service lightdm restart

Tips

  • The xorg.conf file is regenerated when a graphics card is added, so it may be automatically reverted to its original state
  • Deleting the HorizSync and VertRefresh entries in Section "Monitor" sets the monitor's default resolution. If the screen is too small after configuring, try this.
  • For reference, DPMS stands for Display Power Management Signaling.
