The World Wide Web (WWW, W3) is a global information space where people can share information through computers connected to the Internet. It is often simply called the Web. The term is often used as a synonym for the Internet, but strictly speaking they are different concepts. The Web is just one service that runs on the Internet, like e-mail.
A transmission method for exchanging images and text on the Internet using HTTP, hypertext, the HTML format, and so on. Since 1993, the Web has held an absolute position in the structure of the Internet.
It began with a proposal by Tim Berners-Lee, a software engineer at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), in March 1989, and was then researched and developed. It was originally devised for rapid information exchange and joint research among physicists working at universities and research institutes around the world.

Basic concepts
An information retrieval system that lets you search information on the Internet in a hypertext manner and a multimedia environment. It is a system for effectively searching the diverse information on the Internet expressed in hypertext format, and it is the most widely deployed such system worldwide.
Hypertext is shown by a program called a web browser (Web browser), which reads pieces of information such as "documents" or web pages from a web server and displays them on a computer monitor. The user can then follow the hyperlinks on each page to move to other documents, or send a series of information to the server serving that page. Following hyperlinks is commonly called web surfing (North Korean standard term: mangyuram) or web browsing. A collection of web pages with related content is called a website. Although the English word worldwide is usually written as one word without a space or hyphen, the World Wide Web and its abbreviation WWW are used as official English terms.
The World Wide Web can be summarized by the following three functions.
- A uniform way to locate web resources, for example URL
- A protocol (Protocol) for accessing named web resources, for example HTTP
- A language for easily navigating between resources, for example HTML
Governing bodies
Technologies related to the World Wide Web are developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). W3C works on standardizing HTML, HTTP, and others, and has recently been establishing standards related to the Semantic Web.
