Windows NT is the name of a family of Microsoft Windows operating systems. NT originally stood for the expanded meaning "New Technology", but later came to be used without any particular meaning. It is somewhat more stable than Windows 95 and Windows 98, which use Windows 9x. Windows NT 3.1, Windows NT 3.5, and Windows NT 3.51 do not include Internet Explorer; Windows NT 4.0 includes Internet Explorer 2 (Internet Explorer 3 for the Korean version), and Windows 2000 includes Internet Explorer 5.01. Windows NT was influenced by the VMS family of operating systems.
As of 2021, the latest operating system based on the NT kernel is Windows 11. Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020, and support for Windows 8.1 ended on January 10, 2023. And before announcing the release of Windows 11, Microsoft announced that support for Windows 10 would also end on October 14, 2025.
