Resources consist of various elements, including interfaces that provide information to the user such as bitmaps, icons, or cursors; custom resources that contain data needed by the application; version resources used for API settings; and menu and dialog box resources. You can add new resources to a project and modify them using the corresponding resource editor. Most Visual C++ wizards automatically generate the .rc file to be used in your project.
