In a word, a website anyone can edit quickly.
Wiki software is wiki software that allows multiple users to create and edit web pages using a web browser. It is also called a wiki engine or wiki application. A wiki system is typically a web application running on one or more web servers. Content, including current and past revisions, is usually stored in a file system or database. Wiki software is a type of collaborative software.
Some wiki software, such as MediaWiki, stores data in a database. Other wiki software, such as PmWiki, stores data in flat files.
Wikis are used for a variety of purposes, such as knowledge management and record keeping. They are also used for community websites and intranets within organizations.
Ward Cunningham, who created the first wiki software, WikiWikiWeb, described a wiki as "the simplest online database that could possibly work." "Wiki" comes from the Hawaiian word "wiki," meaning "quick."
