Web 2.0 refers to web technology in which users produce information themselves and communicate in both directions, based on the spirit of openness, participation, and sharing. Whereas Web 1.0 showed information one-way over the internet, Web 2.0 lets users produce content themselves and communicate in both directions. Examples include bulletin boards, comments, blogs, UCC, and knowledge encyclopedias.
A simple collection of websites is regarded as Web 1.0, and the evolution into a platform that provides web applications, Web 2.0, is predicted to replace applications on desktop computers. It can be described as a service that encourages user participation, sharing, and openness, sharing outputs and opening them to the outside.
