How to use WebRTC in an isolated network environment (Offline).

Abstrtact

If you want to use WebRTC in the Firefox browser while cut off from the outside (an Offline PC), configure it in the following order.

Test environment

Problems

RTCPeerConnections when the network is down

Creating an RTCPeerConnection object while the network is disconnected produces the following error.

Can't create RTCPeerConnections when the network is down

See RTCPeerConnection#Can't create RTCPeerConnections when the network is down. In short, change the network.manage-offline-status setting to false on the about:config page in Firefox.

localhost is not connect

If the STUN server is localhost, the Trickle ICE connection fails.

See Session Traversal Utilities for NAT#stun:localhost is not connect. In short, change the media.peerconnection.ice.no_host setting to true on the about:config page in Firefox.

Bigger problem

In the end, the candidate entries are missing from the SDP during the ICE connection.

Cause under investigation ..

So... create a new interface, switch it to a connected state (the Network interface state must be UP), update the /etc/hosts file, and connect the ICE server to that address. See ip_command#Installing The Linux Dummy-Network Interface for connection details.
