Voxel

lastmod 2025-01-20created 2024-03-206 edits

A voxel is a volume element that represents a value on a regular grid in three-dimensional space. The term voxel is a blend of volume and pixel. It is an analogy to 2D image data being represented by pixels. Voxels are often used in the visualization and analysis of medical and scientific data. Like pixels, voxels themselves do not carry spatial coordinates, but their position can be inferred from their relation to other voxels (i.e., their position in the data structure that makes up a single volumetric image).
