Voltage (electric pressure), or electric potential difference, is the difference in electric potential of a charge within an electric field. The most common English name is voltage. In an electric circuit, it means the potential difference between two points of the circuit and is what causes electricity to flow. Its meaning differs slightly from electromotive force. The unit is the volt (V).
Voltage can arise when an electrostatic field is formed, when a charge passes through a magnetic field, when the strength of a magnetic field changes over time, and when these three occur at the same time.
