Video editing software is application software for editing sequences of video on a computer. It can import and export video, cut and paste portions of video clips, and add special effects and transitions. Sometimes the result can be converted through an encoding process into DVD, web video, mobile phone video, and so on for distribution. Video editing software is usually also allowed limited editing of audio clips, or used to synchronize video and sound.
Lightworks, Sony Vegas, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, EDIUS, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and others are pioneers among video editing software and exert a huge influence on the editing of films and TV programs. Some of these systems use the user's hardware for video processing.
Video editing software replaces traditional flatbed celluloid film editing tools and analog video tape-to-tape online editing machines.
