Variance

lastmod 2023-10-26created 2017-11-064 edits

In probability theory and statistics, the variance of a random variable is a number that measures how far the random variable is distributed from its expected value.[1] The expected value indicates the location of the random variable, and the variance indicates how widely it is spread. The standard deviation, the square root of the variance, is used more often than the variance.
