A user interface (UI) is a physical or virtual medium created for temporary or permanent access so that communication can take place between people (users) and things or systems, especially machines, computer programs, and the like. A user interface is the system through which people interact with computers. A user interface includes physical hardware and logical software elements. User interfaces broadly use the following means.
- Input: lets the user operate the system.
- Output: the system displays the results of what the user did.
Usability is a criterion for judging a user interface. A good user interface should be based on psychology and physiology, so that users can easily find and use the elements they need and easily obtain clearly intended results from those elements.
