UTF-16

UTF-16 (16-bit Unicode Transformation Format) is one of the Unicode character encodings. Characters in the commonly used Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP) are encoded directly as 16-bit values, and characters beyond it are encoded as 32 bits in a specially defined way.
