Tux Paint is a free software/open-source raster graphics editor made for children. Bill Kendrick started the project in 2002, and it is maintained and developed together with a large number of volunteers. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License.
Tux Paint was first developed for Linux. At the time, there was no drawing program suitable for children on Linux. It is written in the C programming language and uses various free/open-source helper libraries, including Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL). It later became available on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and BeOS as well.
