The Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is, like FTP, a protocol for transferring files, but it transfers files in a simpler way than FTP. As a result, it has the drawback of being unreliable, for example data can be lost during transfer. However, because it does not use a complex protocol like FTP, it is simple to implement. It is mainly used for uploading operating systems in embedded systems.
It was first standardized in 1981.
