An open-source torrent program. Current crackdowns on torrents target the servers of sites that distribute torrent files, but the effect is minimal. Because files are exchanged between clients, even if an illegal site's server is blocked, it is easy to find other sites circulating the same file names. There is a weakness here, however: users who download files have their IP addresses exposed. Anonymity is not guaranteed, and because uploading and downloading happen at the same time by the nature of torrent technology, users can face legal sanctions. Tribler emerged as an alternative to this.
