An arcade system named after the Triforce from The Legend of Zelda series, built through a partnership of Nintendo, Namco, and Sega, effectively made by Sega Interactive, and released in 2002 alongside Chihiro, an Xbox-compatible board.
It was developed as a board compatible with the Nintendo GameCube, and actual development was led and completed by Sega. The board's name comes from the Triforce: just as the Triforce is made of three united elements (Power, Wisdom, Courage), the name was meant to signify that the three companies above made it together.
It was designed with a hardware architecture compatible with the GameCube, but given its nature as an arcade board, it added twice the 1T-SRAM of the GameCube and an upgradable memory module, and except for the Mario Kart Arcade series and Donkey Kong Jungle Fever, it uses Sega's GD-ROM to run games.
Some games, such as F-Zero AX, have cabinets built so that GameCube memory can be attached externally, and these machines can link data from the corresponding GameCube game.
Perhaps because, like Sammy's Atomiswave based on Sega's Dreamcast and the Dreamcast-compatible NAOMI board, it was built on a specific console with some improved specs over the GameCube, Triforce board games can also be run on the Nintendo Wii, which uses the GameCube architecture as is, with tools such as a hard loader, and likewise on Dolphin, limited to unofficial builds.
