System programming refers to the series of processes for writing system programs. Since a system program is a program that controls the system, system programming can ultimately be seen as the process of getting to know the system.
Even though it is the process of getting to know the system, there is no need to be intimidated in advance, because you do not need to study the system itself, such as the computer's CPU, memory, and hard disk. As explained in the previous chapter, this is because you can access the system indirectly through functions provided by the operating system.
Thanks to the operating system, we can handle a computer system with only a rough understanding of it. Of course, if you need to build a program that runs in an embedded environment, you will need deeper knowledge of the computer system, but in most cases, indirect knowledge through the operating system alone will be enough to write system programs without problems.
