Swing

Swing is a development toolkit provided by default in the JDK for implementing GUIs (Graphic User Interface) in Java, and is part of Sun Microsystems' Java Foundation Classes.

Swing has been used since JDK 1.2 to make up for a shortcoming of the earlier AWT (Abstract Window Toolkit): because AWT exposes the resources of the OS (Operating System) and window system as they are, in order to achieve Java's goal of "Write Once, Run Everywhere (WORE)" it implemented only components commonly provided by all systems, such as buttons and dialogs, and could not offer more complex and varied graphical components such as tables and trees.
