Submerged arc welding

Submerged arc welding (SAW) is a common arc welding process.
Features
The electrode used is a bare electrode, and an arc of constant size is produced automatically. Because the arc occurs within the flux, no light leaks out. The flux melts as it contacts the arc, and the molten slag in turn covers the molten metal to protect the weld metal. Since a large current is generally passed through a large-diameter wire, welding is efficient.
