const_iterator

• Stackoverflow: C++ STL set update is tedious: I can't change an element in place

The iterator of a set (set<T>::iterator) is const. A set is a sorted container. Because the values themselves are the sort criteria, modifying an internal value can potentially cause bugs. So if you want to change values, it is better to use std::map, where KEY and VALUE are separate.
