Sprite Stacking

Sprite stacking is a technique used in game development that stacks 2D sprites to make them look 3D. It generally means overlapping multiple 2D images so that an object appears 3D from a particular angle or viewpoint. The technique provides more realistic visual effects and makes game environments more dynamic. It is mainly used to depict players, enemy characters, backgrounds, objects, and so on more vividly.
It renders voxel graphics by stacking 2D sprite "slices". Drawing slices on top of each other with a slight offset gives a nice pixel art/isometric 3D effect. This effect appears in the indie game NIUM.
