Spectre is a hardware security vulnerability that affects all recent microprocessors that use branch prediction in speculative execution. Unlike Meltdown, it applies to both x86 and ARM architectures. Like Meltdown, it allows a program access so that the microprocessor can see the entire memory of the computer, and as a result the entire contents of the computer can be accessed. Spectre's CVE number was assigned as CVE-2017-5715.

- Easily examine and understand any Windows system's hardware and software capability to prevent Meltdown and Spectre attacks.
- InSpectre, a free tool for checking Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities
- Gibson Research has released an extremely simple tool that detects whether a PC is vulnerable to Meltdown or Spectre. The tool is called InSpectre.
- InSpectre is a small program of only 122KB and requires no formal installation. It takes less than a second to check whether the user's PC is susceptible to Meltdown and Spectre. When the check is done, it reports the system's security status in a popup that can be understood at a glance.
