Spaced repetition

Spaced repetition (間隔反復, spaced rehearsal, expanding rehearsal, graduated intervals, repetition spacing, repetition scheduling), or spaced retrieval, is a learning technique that increases the intervals between reviews of previously learned material in order to exploit the psychological spacing effect.

Although the principle is useful in many contexts, spaced repetition is commonly applied in contexts where a learner must acquire many items and retain them in memory. It is therefore well suited to the problem of vocabulary acquisition in second-language learning.

An easier and clearer Korean rendering of the term would be gangyeok jojeol banbok hakseupbeop ("interval-adjusted repetition learning method"). The basis is banbok hakseup ("repetition learning"), and it is a method that "adjusts the interval appropriately" for each study item.
