A cloud-native runtime for agentic AI
SmythOS Runtime Environment
SRE is an open-source runtime and SDK for production AI agents. It provides OS-level abstractions for AI resources—LLMs, vector databases, storage, and caching—with a unified API that works identically across all providers. Write your agent logic once, scale it anywhere. Built-in security, observability, and 40+ production-ready components included. The operating system layer AI agents have been missing.
Inspired by the architecture of operating system kernels, SmythOS provides a robust and scalable foundation for agent orchestration and lifecycle management, giving every builder the tools to act, not just imagine.
About
- An open-source runtime environment built to be the OS layer for agentic AI, providing a secure, modular, and scalable cloud-native platform
- Lets you build, run, and manage AI agents across local, cloud, and edge environments
- Abstracts various AI resources such as LLMs, VectorDBs, storage, and caches behind a single API, so they are accessed the same way regardless of provider
- e.g., provides a consistent interface for all resources such as local files, S3, Redis, OpenAI, and Anthropic
- Smyth Runtime Environment (SRE): the kernel for AI agents
- Agent-First design; a runtime optimized for AI workloads
- Modular architecture: connectors for every service can be swapped or extended (Storage, LLM, VectorDB, Cache, etc.)
- Security-first: built-in access control and credential management through the Candidate/ACL system
- Agent orchestration: full agent lifecycle management
- Includes 40+ production-grade components: AI/LLM, data processing, external APIs, logic, storage, code execution, etc.
- SDK: TypeScript-based, providing type safety and IntelliSense support
- Keeps code consistent between development and production environments
- No business logic changes needed when the infrastructure changes
- CLI tool supports automated project initialization and management
- Simplify production-grade AI agent development
- Coexistence of autonomy and control
- Security built in
