Smoke testing

A subset of all defined/planned test cases that cover the main functionality of a component or system. These main tests confirm that most of the program's core features work.

The term smoke test comes from the test of powering on an electronic circuit board to check whether or not smoke comes out of it. If smoke comes out when powered on, it 'obviously' fails and the basic functionality doesn't work, so it goes back into development.

Doing a smoke test = checking that the main features work correctly.
