Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable optical module transceiver used in telecommunication and data communication applications. The form factor and electrical interface are specified by a multi-source agreement (MSA) under the auspices of the Small Form Factor Committee.
What is an SFP optical module?
An SFP optical module is a gigabit electrical signal to optical signal interface device, a small pluggable gigabit optical transceiver module, and the industry standard for pluggable, media converter SFP ports integrated into switches, routers, and other network equipment. Optical or copper cables for data transmission networks are commonly found in Ethernet switches, routers, and firewalls, and can be found in network interface cards.

What is an SFP port?
SFP ports are mainly used for signal conversion and data transmission, and the port complies with the IEEE 802.3AB standard (e.g., 1000base-T) with a maximum transmission distance of up to 1000Mbps (the switch's SFP ports support 100 / 1000Mbps. ).
SFP port advantages
An SFP port is a hot-plug I / O interface (see input / output interface) with strong flexibility, suitable for various products such as 1000base-SX, 1000base-Lx / LH, 1000base-Zx, or 1000base-. BX10-d / U port exchange; SFP ports are also backward compatible, supporting 10 / 100 / 1000Mbps.
SFP ports on gigabit switches
Gigabit switch SFP ports, used to extend the switching of the overall network function, can connect to various types of optical fiber through single-mode and multimode fiber (e.g.,) and network jumpers (e.g., Cat5e and Cat6), but before using a gigabit switch SFP port, you must first insert an SFP optical module and then use fiber jumper wires, jumper wires, and the network for data transmission. All enterprise switches currently on the market have at least 2 SFP ports, which can connect fiber optic cables and network jumpers to form ring or star network topologies between different buildings, floors, or areas.
