In virtualization, single-root input/output virtualization (SR-IOV) is a specification that allows the isolation of PCI Express resources for manageability and performance reasons.

SR-IOV (Single Root I/O Virtualization) is a hardware reference that allows a single PCI Express (PCIe) endpoint to be used as multiple separate devices. To do this, it introduces two PCIe functions: physical functions (PF) and virtual functions (VF).
