Simple API for XML (usually called SAX) is an API for using XML documents in applications.
SAX is used instead of DOM to parse XML files. As the name suggests, SAX has a simpler interface than DOM and is suitable when there are many files to process or the files are large. However, it can be considered to have relatively few features for manipulating the data content.
SAX is an event-driven interface. When the programmer sets up the events that may occur, SAX takes control and handles the situation when those events occur. SAX works directly with the XML parser. Therefore it is distributed together with XML parsers; for example, Apache's Xerces also includes SAX classes.
