A Korean: 부업 (副業, side job, also informally called a side hustle or side gig, additional job; Korean-style terms include Korean: 사이드 프로젝트, Side Project, Korean: 투잡, Korean: N잡, etc.) refers to work other than one's main job that a person does in their spare time. Side jobs are classified by employment type into part-time work, remote work, and so on. They are also classified by type of income into earned income, business income, and miscellaneous income.
Side jobs are taken up for various purposes such as financial need, self-development, and making use of leisure time, and with the development of digital technology and platforms, their forms and accessibility are becoming more diverse. In modern society, a side job goes beyond simply generating extra income and is also used as an opportunity to build personal expertise or explore a new career. Side jobs can be broadly divided into online and offline types. Online side jobs include digital content creation such as running a blog, producing YouTube content, and publishing e-books, as well as selling products through e-commerce platforms and doing translation, design, or coding work on freelancer platforms. Many online side jobs appeared during the COVID-19 period, and since many side-job companies sprang up as well, caution is needed. When starting an online side job, don't even look at places that ask for an upfront fee.
Offline side jobs, on the other hand, take forms that require physical labor, such as part-time work like teaching at a private academy or working at a cafe, handicrafts, or farming. Side jobs can also be connected to investment and personal finance; investing in stocks, real estate, or virtual assets, and trading or reselling secondhand goods are also regarded as side jobs.
