A scripting language is a computer programming language that controls application software. It is also called a script programming language. A scripting language is used independently of the application and is generally a different language from the application's own language, letting end users make the application behave according to their needs. The word "script" comes from the theatrical term script, and early scripting languages were also called batch languages or job control language.
