In the context of data storage in computer science, serialization is the process of converting a data structure or object state into a format that can be stored (for example, in a file or memory buffer, or transmitted across a network connection link) in the same or a different computer environment and reconstructed later.
The process of serializing an object is also called marshalling an object. Conversely, extracting a data structure from a series of bytes is called deserialization.
