Single-node analytical DB engine with Geospatial support
About
- Open-source single-node analytical DB engine designed around geospatial processing, with built-in vector/raster operations and spatial optimization
- Aims to provide the fastest spatial analytics query speed and broad function coverage
- Targets small and medium datasets on a local machine or a single cloud instance; for distributed processing it can be linked with SedonaSpark/SedonaFlink/SedonaSnow
- Based on columnar in-memory datasets using the Arrow format; improves memory efficiency and processing speed through Spatial indexing/CRS tracking and a Spatial-aware optimizer
- Supports spatial queries such as Spatial Range, Spatial KNN, Spatial Join, KNN Join, Map Algebra, NDVI, Mask, and Zonal Statistics
- Raster operations also planned: SedonaDB Raster to be extended with the goal of feature parity with SedonaSpark's Raster operators
- Supports both legacy and modern formats such as GeoParquet/GeoJSON/Shapefile/WKT/WKB
- Supports dual Python and SQL APIs, and interoperates with the PyArrow ecosystem, including GeoPandas, DuckDB, and Polars
