SPDY (pronounced /speedy/) is a non-standard open network protocol developed by Google for transporting web content. SPDY is similar to HTTP in its goals of reducing web page load latency and improving web security. SPDY achieves reduced latency through compression, multiplexing, and prioritization. "SPDY" is a trademark of Google and is not an acronym.

In February 2015, Google announced that because the benefits of the HTTP 2.0 protocol were significant, starting May 15, 2016 it would remove SPDY support from the Chrome browser, along with the TLS extension NPN and its successor ALPN.
