Ryzen, or AMD Ryzen, is a brand name applied to a series of computer microprocessors manufactured by AMD, based on the Zen, Zen+, and Zen 2 architectures. Zen-powered Ryzen processors are not aimed at data centers or servers but directly at consumers, targeting markets from the HEDT (high-end desktop) market for high-performance computing to the mobile processor market for laptops aimed at low-power computing. Ryzen was released six years after its predecessor, the AMD FX series, and competes with Intel's Intel Core i series. On February 24, 2017, before the release of Ryzen 7, AMD's stock price rose 600%. July 26, 2017. In its Q2 2017 earnings report, AMD reported that revenue had risen by up to 59% since the sales of the previously released Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5. After the slump of its predecessor AMD FX, AMD has been succeeding in the X86-64 CPU market.
By challenging the stronghold of Intel, which had dominated with about 70% market share, its share, which had been only 0.8%, surged to 25% in the second quarter.
In 2018, AMD officially announced the Ryzen 5 2400G and Ryzen 3 2200G, which integrate Zen CPU cores and Radeon Vega GPUs. Starting with Raven Ridge, it merged the existing AMD APU brand into the Ryzen brand.
