RollerCoaster Tycoon is a video game about running and managing an amusement park. It was developed by MicroProse and Chris Sawyer and released through Hasbro Interactive. The first game in the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, it was first released in North America on March 31, 1999. It was later released in an Xbox version.
History
Chris Sawyer originally intended to make a sequel to his earlier hit Transport Tycoon, but became deeply interested in roller coasters and changed the project to RollerCoaster Tycoon. During development the project was called White Knuckle, and it was later renamed in keeping with the tradition of the Tycoon series.

- A project that integrated Claude Code into the open-source game RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (OpenRCT2) to experiment with having AI actually run an amusement park
- The AI analyzes around 100 metrics such as finances, guest complaints, and ride breakdown data, and automatically makes management decisions such as placing drink stalls, hiring staff, and adjusting admission prices
- Every in-game action is performed from the command line through the CLI tool rctctl, designed with a structure similar to Kubernetes' kubectl
- Claude showed strengths in data analysis, pricing, and staff management, but revealed limitations in spatial tasks such as connecting paths, placing roller coasters, and recognizing terrain
- The experiment confirmed that the key to agent design is the legibility of the environment and the quality of the interface
