About
- Rolldown is a next-generation bundler written in Rust that is set to become Vite's default bundler; it can currently be tried early through the rolldown-vite package
- Being developed with full compatibility with existing Vite as the goal; real-world results show 3~16x faster builds and up to 100x lower memory usage in large projects
- Removes the esbuild dependency and uses Oxc (a suite of high-performance JS tools) for faster and more consistent transpilation and optimization
- Focuses on compatibility with Vite and major plugins and frameworks; for some advanced use cases, the migration guide is recommended
- To be integrated into the main Vite codebase in stages, with a gradual transition planned based on community feedback and real-world experience
