A safe and ergonomic alternative to rm

A safer rm written in Rust

Features

  • rip is an alternative to rm written in Rust, focused on safety/convenience/performance
  • Deleted files are kept in a graveyard directory with their absolute paths preserved (/tmp/graveyard-$USER), giving you a chance to recover the data
    • Data is never overwritten. If a file at the same path is deleted, a backup number is appended
  • "rip2" is one of several forks of the original rip project, and is the third fork:
    • The original project has been unmaintained since 2020
  • Changes added:
    • Extended support: added Windows and NixOS support
    • Code cleanup: refactored to modern Rust, merged PRs from the original repository
    • More tests: added a full test suite and coverage monitoring
    • Style improvements: colorful output and date/time information in seance
    • Bug fixes: fixed issues with FIFO files and seance
    • Shell completions: supports completions for bash, elvish, fish, powershell, zsh, nushell, and more (using clap)
    • Improved safety: implemented flock to prevent race conditions between concurrent processes
  • Can be installed and used on Linux, macOS, and Windows
