As we all already know, PIXAR is the most successful animation production company in the world. Behind the box-office success of their well-known works <Toy Story>, <A Bug's Life>, <Monster House>, <Finding Nemo>, <The Incredibles>, and <Cars> lie their remarkable 3D animation technology and know-how. One of these is RenderMan, which has established itself as the standard for top-tier 3D animation rendering technology. For a long time they have also shared the latest technologies with 3D software vendors, such as the subdivision surfaces in Maya 7. Pixar's RenderMan is an industry-standard renderer developed for film-quality rendering. Of the 44 films nominated for the Academy Award for Visual Effects in recent years, 41 used Pixar's RenderMan. RenderMan is a renderer developed in-house by a production studio that actually makes animation; it focuses on film-quality photorealism, treats detail as the most important thing, and is developed by its maker through a direct and continuous relationship with its customers.
