In physics, quantum field theory (量子場論, North Korean standard: ryangja madangron, QFT), also called yangja madang iron ("quantum madang theory"), is a quantum theory that describes fields. It forms the theoretical foundation of particle physics, condensed matter physics, and other fields. In the narrow sense, quantum field theory is a theory that combines quantum mechanics and special relativity. Quantum electrodynamics and the Standard Model are representative examples. In the broad sense, it also includes theories that are non-relativistic but deal with quantized fields. The quantum field theory treated in condensed matter physics belongs to this case. A major example is BCS theory.
