The pylon camera software suite is a software package consisting of an easy-to-use SDK as well as drivers and tools that let you operate any Basler camera on a PC running the Windows, Linux, or macOS operating system.

Basler camera customers can now use the open-source projects "pypylon" and "pylon camera driver for ROS" to develop prototype applications built with the Python programming language and robot applications for the Robot Operating System (ROS).

How to install

Download the package from the "pylon software" section of the official website.

How to Run

GigE Vision

Connect the device and the PC together to equipment such as PoE to keep them on the same network. You must run ipconfigurator to set the device's IP address.

PYLON_ROOT settings

Add to .bashrc:

export PYLON_ROOT=/opt/pylon
export PATH=$PYLON_ROOT/bin:$PATH
source $PYLON_ROOT/bin/pylon-setup-env.sh "$PYLON_ROOT"

Troubleshooting

The /opt/pylon/share/pylon/README file summarizes various troubleshooting methods.

When devices don't appear in ipconfigurator

Check whether a firewall such as ufw is enabled. If it is not a firewall problem, it is most likely a Reverse Path Filtering problem.

sysctl -a 2>/dev/null | grep '\.rp_filter'

If the output shows 1 or 2 as below,

net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 2
net.ipv4.conf.eth1.rp_filter = 2

change it to 0.

sudo sysctl net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter=0
sudo sysctl net.ipv4.conf.eth1.rp_filter=0

After that, run the /opt/pylon/bin/ipconfigurator program.
