A step-by-step Curriculum for teaching programming basics ...
IDE setup
VSCode is recommended for beginners.
Recommended IDE by language
Hello, World
Basic syntax
STDIN/STDOUT/STDERR
Variables and data types
Integers/constants/characters/strings/Boolean
Arrays
Casting
Operators/comparison operators/logical operators/unary operators
Bits and bitwise operators
Pointers/references/dynamic allocation/memory
Conditional statement test
if..elif..else, ?:, etc ...
| WARNING |
| If nested conditionals are hard, practicing number-square printing in the loop section, with the two-loop constraint, is recommended. |
How to use a debugger
Loop test
In C, use two loop (for/while/ etc) statements; input is given via the command line.
- Star pyramid
- Number square
If you don't know about padding
- Printing digit grouping (e.g.
1,123,900) - Printing padded numbers (e.g.
0003,02)
The following conditions must be met:
- No functions may be used other than the function for getting command-line arguments and the STDOUT output function.
- Type conversion functions (atoi, parseInt, etc ...) can be implemented yourself, but use the provided functions if needed.
- String length functions (sizeof, length, count, etc ...) can also be implemented yourself, but use the provided functions if needed.
If you get stuck here, your understanding of data types is lacking. Consider a C language course.
