Procedural programming, also called procedure-oriented programming, is a kind of programming paradigm. It is sometimes used as a synonym for imperative programming, but it can also mean a programming paradigm based on the concept of the procedure call. Procedures, also called routines, subprograms, subroutines, methods, or functions (different from mathematical functions and similar in meaning to functions in functional programming), simply contain a series of computational steps to be carried out. A procedure can be called from any point in the program, including from other procedures and even from itself.
