A polynomial (多項式; North Korean standard: yeoreodamisik) is a mathematical concept of central importance in algebra, and historically it played a major role in the establishment of modern algebra.
A polynomial generally consists of the sum of terms that contain a particular letter and terms that do not.
Since a polynomial may contain more than one or two letters, you need to state which letter is the one of interest, so it is described as a polynomial in (that particular letter).
