In geometry, a polygon is a path that lies in a single plane and is formed by a finite number of line segments joined one after another. Read literally, the Korean word for polygon (dagakhyeong, 多角形) means a shape (figure) with many angles. Each line segment that makes up a polygon is called a side of the polygon, and the endpoints of the sides are called vertices. For a simple polygon, the union of its sides forms the boundary of the polygon's region. Polygons are named by their number of sides, such as triangle and quadrilateral.
