The most widely used academic definition of politics is David Easton's "authoritative allocation of values." There is also a tendency to define politics with a focus on the activities of the state; most notably, Max Weber defines politics as "the running of the state or activities that influence this running." Since the 1980s, under the influence of postmodernism, a tendency has also emerged to define politics as the power relations inherent not only in the realm of the state but in all human relationships. Thus politics is defined from three aspects, "allocation," "activities of the state or government," and "power relations," and none of these aspects can be neglected. Perhaps the easiest definition of politics to understand is Harold Lasswell's "Who gets what, when and how." We can see that Lasswell also defines politics from the aspect of "allocation."
Political science is the discipline that scientifically studies and analyzes political behavior. Related fields include political philosophy, comparative politics, and international politics.
