PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet, P2P protocol over Ethernet) is a communication protocol used to encapsulate PPP frames inside Ethernet frames. It is mainly used in ADSL services, where users connect to ADSL transceiver equipment (modems) over Ethernet. The protocol was developed by UUNET, Redback Networks, and RouterWare.
